CATCHING UP WITH THE STAR WARS ARTISTS
What Star Wars work are you doing for 2007? What conventions are you attending in 2007?
JOE CORRONEY: Right now, I'm planning on new, limited edition artwork for Celebration IV, the official Star Wars convention, next May in Los Angeles. The artwork features all of the major characters of Episode IV: A New Hope and commemorates the 30th Anniversary of Star Wars. I have some potential projects coming up for Star Wars Insider hopefully in the near future and I'll also be illustrating a new ongoing project for Lucasfilm and the official website, Star Wars.com, in early 2007. Along with Celebration IV (May 24th - 28th) I'll also be attending Motor City Comic Con (May 18th - 20th). Motor City will feature a lot of Star Wars celebrities and guests as well for the 30th Anniversary and I've been asked to complete Star Wars cover art for the convention program book. I'll also be attending Comic Con International in San Diego (July 26th - July 29th), Wizard World Chicago (August 9th - 12th), Mid-Ohio-Con (November 24th and 25th) and possibly Pittsburgh Comicon (April 27 - 29).
Grant Gould: I'll be attending Star Wars Celebration IV in Los Angeles and selling a limited edition print drawn exclusively for that show. I should also have a couple more "How To Draw" tutorials appearing on the official website (starwars.com). If there's another Star Wars trading card set in '07, I'll likely be part of that, too, but nothing's been officially announced or confirmed yet, so for now it's up in the air. The shows I'm definitely planning on attending are Star Wars Celebration IV, Wizard World Chicago, and my two local Minnesota conventions -- MicroCon and FallCon. I'd like to hit Comic-Con and Dragon-Con again this year, as well as Star Wars Celebration Europe, but it's looking unlikely. Attending the big shows can get pretty pricey, so we'll see what happens. I'll keep people posted on my website as to which cons I end up going to.
Jan Duursema: Star Wars LEGACY and more Star Wars LEGACY. We're planning on taking readers where they least expect to be... Just finishing up a couple of covers for LEGACY for 2007. Maybe a poster for C4. Conventions--hoping to get to Star Wars Celebration IV and San Diego.
Cynthia Cummens: I'll be Star Wars Celebration IV, Star Wars Celebration Europe, Wizard World Chicago, San Diego Comic Con (tentative).
As for SW related projects, I'll continue to be doing more drawing lessons for StarWars.com, 2 licensed prints for the Star Wars conventions, a piece for a Friends of Lulu anthology published in the spring, and more trading cards for Topps if they
release another set.
CATCHING UP WITH FRIENDS WITH SOME WEBCOMICS
FIRST OVI NEDELCU
What is your webcomic called?
LUNCHBOX
What is it about?
LUNCHBOX is about two little kids (sister and brother) who try and answer questions we all would liked answered while exploring life and situations we all experience.
Why do it as a webcomic?
The idea was to try and get up a weekly comic and not have to worry about deadlines or printers. I just work at my own pace and then easily upload to the web for all to view.
What will the frequency be?
A new strip every week.
How is a webcomic different in terms of plotting?
Well whether its a web comic or a printed one, there’s no difference as far as it being a printed comic strip or a web comic strip. The plotting and process are the same. The only difference is one is upload at my leisure on the web and the other is printed by a printer.
The main concept is about a young girl whose pet bunny mysteriously becomes monstrously large. When the neighborhood sees the oversized pet, some of the neighbors get their own wonderful ideas about how the means to create such a transformation could be very beneficial for their own personal endeavors, some of which are slightly frightening.
Why do it as a webcomic?
It's immediate, spontaneous, and damn near alive. It's like improv. Already the response I have gotten has been really enthusiastic and that is so inspiring when you are working and living like a hermit and never sure if what you are doing is getting through to anyone. :) The format limitations really challenge different aspects of your storytelling skills. You have tiny bit of space, limited time, and in my case I need to tell the story get readers into my world and make them hungry for more
What will the frequency be?
Every week but I may get strips out early to help people and myself get a feel for this world, I want it to feel almost like a tv show.
How is a webcomic different in terms of plotting?
Well being an absolute rookie I can only say how its different as it seems to me right now. To me you can plot and right out general concepts but what I feel is already important is leaving room for spontaneity, to let the last strip help shape the next while keeping the whole concept in mind.
Who is hosting it?
Right now its at dogmeatsausageshow.blogspot.com but I already have it's own site I just need to get it set up and I will have all the info for the move on my blog and keep the strip going on the blog for the time being.
How is your hard copy... paper comics going?
Slow hahaha. I'm working on a story that is extremely ambitious in terms of what i'm trying to achieve and what my comfort zone is. So I am writing and compiling an insane amount of reference for the story which deals with the Yakuza.
It is well known that cash can make people free. But how to act if one does not have cash? The one way only is to receive the loans or consolidation loan.
